Doppler has been downloaded over 1 million times now. I’m not kidding. It shocks me. I never expected that when I started developing it back in 2004.
Now that Microsoft released the Zune in the US without podcasting support I see that there is a ‘market’ (I put market between quotes as I don’t sell Doppler nor make any money out of it) out there which I cannot reach because the Zune is not available in Europe, so I cannot test it with Doppler (The Zune has it’s own media software, a bit alike iTunes).
I checked it out briefly (the software), and Doppler didn’t really like it out of the box. That’s annoying to say the least.
So my call to Microsoft:
Is there a Zune developer program? Is there a known API (what I found on my computer did resemble the WMP API in a way)? And is there a possibility for us developers living outside of the US to be able to develop software that is compatible with the Zune? Take into account that I’m just a single developer, not able to sign big contracts or deals etc. I just want to get hold of a Zune device basically to be able to modify Doppler so that my users can easily download podcasts to it.
