It’s smooth. I love the ribbon. It just makes sense. The blog posting feature is nice too, although there is a little bug with the post date when using WordPress. But that’s something I can live with. Just post as a draft, go into the WordPress admin, open the draft, change the timestamp and publish it.

The translation feature in Word is funny. The end result is ‘understandable’ (I translated from English to Dutch) but it’s for sure not production quality. Think of the translations you get when you translate from Japanese to English, that’s the level you get:

“De vertaaleigenschap in Word is grappig. Het eindresultaat is ‘ begrijpelijk ‘ (ik vertaalde uit Engels in het Nederlands) maar het is zonder twijfel productie geen kwaliteit. Denk van de vertalingen u wanneer u uit Japans in het Engels vertaalt krijgt, dat het niveau dat u hebt gekregen.”

A feature I really like is the pop up ‘toolbar’ you get when you select some text in a document. It shows up almost visible, move the mouse to it and it becomes completely visible, allowing you to change text formatting etc.

I also installed Visio 2007, which is different (as usual?) from the other Office 2007 applications. There is no ribbon, just the old fashioned toolbar.

All in all, the first impression is positive. It works smoothly on my machine (but my machine is rather fast, dual core 2Gh processor, 2GB internal memory).
